A Performance Model for Evaluating the Effect of Interferences among the Collocated Heterogeneous Wireless Networks running Binary Exponential Backoff

چکیده
As various wireless networks supporting mobile devices have been widely deployed, many researchers are interested in evaluating the effect of interferences among them. It is due to that these heterogeneous collocated wireless networks tend to be asymmetric in terms of transmission power and carrier sense threshold, resulting in unfair channel access and degraded performance of victim networks. This paper proposes an analytical model to evaluate the degree of interferences among collocated wireless networks sharing the same bandwidth and running BEB (Binary Exponential Backoff) algorithm. Furthermore, it introduces a mathematical model to measure the performance improvement by NACK scheme, which lets senders distinguish inter-network interferences from intra-network ones named collisions. The model predicts that interferences from dominant networks can severely deteriorate the performance of weak networks. It also shows that the NACK technique alone is unable to alleviate the degradation of performance if superior networks continue to deliver data frames.

This paper introduces a performance model of a recently proposed backoff technique named Nonoverlapping binary exponential backoff algorithm over IEEE 802.15.4, which is designed for LRWPAN. To reduce the collision rate in highly populated wireless networks, non-overlapping binary exponential backoff tries to evenly distribute the random backoff delay by distinguishing the new range of backoff ...

Existing backoff scheme’s optimization of IEEE 802.11 DCF MAC protocol consider only saturated networks or asymptotic conditions. In real situations, traffic is bursty or streamed at low rates so that stations do not operate usually in saturated regime. In this work, we propose and analyze a backoff enhancement for IEEE802.11 DCF that requires information only about the network size and that is...
متن کاملHybrid Binary Exponential Back-Off Mechanism for Wireless Sensor Networks
Many mechanisms to improve the performance have been proposed in the IEEE 802.15.4 Wireless sensor networks area, due to its high influence in the modern day world. Most of them have improved the performance of the network compared to the standard CSMA/CA backoff method. But still there are improvements to almost every method proposed. In this paper, we have proposed a hybrid binary exponential...
متن کاملCollision Minimise Energy Efficient Backoff Algorithm for Wireless Sensor Networks
Wireless sensor networks (WSN) are resource constrained. Collision is one of the key factors that affect the quality of service and contributes in significant loss of energy. In WSN the medium access control CSMA/CA uses binary exponential backoff (BEB) algorithm to minimize collision among the contending nodes. The range of backoff exponent is limited to very small values. This causes channel ...

IEEE 802.11 is worldwide implemented and the most widely deployed protocol for Wireless Local Area Networks (WLANs). This paper proposes a simple and effective contention window-resetting scheme, named Double Increment Double Decrement (DIDD), to improve the performance of IEEE 802.11 Binary Exponential Backoff (BEB) under an error-prone environment. Our work becomes important and meaningful in...
